Powers Lake is a charming census-designated place (CDP) nestled in the towns of Randall and Wheatland, within Kenosha County. According to the 2020 census, Powers Lake is home to 1,401 residents, offering a tight-knit community atmosphere. While part of the Powers Lake CDP was historically located in Walworth County, it officially became part of the village of Bloomfield in 2011.
A Rich History
Initially known as Lakeville and later Nippersink, Powers Lake was named after James B. Powers, an early settler and one of the community’s first postmasters. The area’s fertile soil and reliable water supply made it an ideal location for farming. By the 1880s, Powers Lake began to attract recreational visitors, particularly fishermen from Chicago, who eventually developed the North Shore. The 1890s saw the establishment of five ice houses around the lake, reflecting the area’s industrious spirit.

Powers Lake spans 451 acres across Walworth and Kenosha Counties, with a maximum depth of 33 feet.
