Lake Geneva Country Home Renovation

Completed 2024 | 4,200 sq. ft. | Lake Geneva, WI

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Completed in 2024, this Lake Geneva home renovation project transformed a dated 1970s ranch into a modern, Mid-Century-inspired retreat. Originally planned as an interior update, the project evolved into a full remodel, including an expanded addition to the main-level master bedroom and a full remodel of the attic space above the garage. Altogether, only two original rooms remained. The homeowners, returning clients with whom we previously partnered on a custom home in Lake Geneva, trusted our team once again to reimagine a home that reflects their lifestyle, travel influences, and desire for family gathering spaces.

With a total of 4,200 square feet, the renovation included a full interior redesign, widened hallways, updated flooring, three new bathrooms, and reconfigured attic loft space. What began with “good bones” became a showcase of how thoughtful design and craftsmanship can completely redefine a home.

Key architectural features include clerestory skylights in the kitchen and dining area, a new entry porch with a transom window, and hallmark Engerman details such as white oak box beams and trusses in the cathedral-ceiling master suite. The result is a warm, functional, and sophisticated home, ready to welcome children, grandchildren, and guests for years to come.

Renovation Highlights

From the exterior approach, the new spacious entry porch with transom glass creates a refined and welcoming presence. Inside, widening the main hallway reshaped the home’s flow, enhancing natural movement and scale.

Natural light plays a leading role. Clerestory skylights flood the kitchen and dining areas, while the existing fireplace was preserved and rebuilt to anchor the living space, adding character. Clean lines, white oak flooring, modern tile, and custom millwork establish a cohesive, elevated aesthetic throughout.

Even challenging spaces were repurposed with intention. The entire second floor above the garage, previously a master suite, was reimagined during this Lake Geneva remodeling project. Engerman Contracting replaced the original master suite with two new bedrooms, added a full bath between them, and converted the former master closet loft into an open entertainment area. The upper level now includes an entertainment area, two bedrooms, a bathroom, a new master suite with full bath, and a family seating area, maximizing function without sacrificing design continuity. Upstairs, the attic conversion provides additional bedrooms and living space, ensuring comfort and accommodation for visiting adult children and grandchildren.

Additional enhancements on the main level include a new full bathroom and a functional “dirty kitchen,” adding everyday convenience for hosting and meal preparation.

Every element of this Lake Geneva home feels original yet fully renewed, combining thoughtful renovation, expert remodeling, and strategic additions to create a naturally lit, cohesive, and elevated living environment.

Master Suite Addition

A major focal point of this renovation is the expansive master suite addition, designed as a serene private retreat. Spacious and refined, the suite boasts a large window wall overlooking the wooded acreage of the property, creating a natural, peaceful backdrop. The spa-inspired bathroom includes a steam shower, stand-alone soaking tub, and separate His and Her vanities, all crafted with premium finishes to offer a true luxury experience.

Every detail of this renovation speaks to longevity, livability, and the trust built through longstanding client relationships—something Engerman Contracting values deeply.
