Project Scope
Situated on the shore of Geneva Lake and surrounded by mature trees, this Tuscan-inspired custom home is a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship. Engerman Contracting, in collaboration with COBU Architects, began by stripping most of the original structure down to its foundation. This project presented unique design challenges, such as reusing the existing foundation and working with the steep slope of the site. However, these challenges were embraced to create a stunning home that captures breathtaking lake views on every level and provides large exterior terraces, perfect for family gatherings on long summer nights. The tower offers a quiet, unique space with stunning lake views.
The centerpiece of the 4-bedroom home is a vaulted great room, where handcrafted decorative beams conceal motorized window shades for those sunny summer days. The large true masonry fireplace provides a cozy space for cold winter nights. A custom-forged curved iron staircase leads to a walkout basement, complete with its own covered patio and lake view, enhancing the home’s connection to the outdoors. In keeping with the style of the home, the interior walls feature a troweled plaster finish with integral color. The bathroom showers are clad in honed limestone, as is the finished lower level floor, which also boasts in-slab radiant heat.
The 11-foot tall custom mesquite entry door, with handmade leaded sidelights and surround, makes a stunning entrance. The lightweight synthetic red clay tile roof ties the design elements together while offering outstanding longevity with minimal maintenance.
During the design phase, 3D renderings helped bring the vision to life, allowing the clients to make informed decisions about materials and colors. Paired with early landscape design, these renderings gave the home a sense of place before construction even began.
This project allowed John and his team to showcase their creative genius, incorporating intricate Tuscan details that are rarely seen in this area. The result is a one-of-a-kind retreat that harmonizes with its natural surroundings while delivering timeless elegance.
